1. Anand Kumar, a mathematician and founder of Super30 classes was conferred with the 2014 Ramanujan Mathematics Award in Rajkot on 27 January 2014. The award was given to him at the Eighth National Mathematics Convention organised in Rajkot.

2. Ajoy Misra has been appointed as the CEO and Managing Director of Tata Global Beverages Limited (TGBL) on 29 January 2014. At the time of elevation to the position of CEO and MD, Misra was serving the company as Deputy CEO and Executive Director of TGBL. His appointment will come to effect from 1 April 2014 as decided by the board of directors of TGBL.

3. Six Public Sector Units (PSUs) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 29 January 2014 to set up the World’s largest 4000 MW ultra solar power project in Rajasthan.BHEL Contributes Highest 26% followed by SECI 23%

4. The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) announced Indian rupee as a legal tender on 29 January 2014.
RBZ was adding Indian Rupee and three other Asian currencies to the basket of currencies to be circulated in the country. These include China, Japan and Australia.

The public can now open accounts in Chinese Yuans, Australian Dollars, Indian Rupees and Japanese Yens.

Till now, Zimbabwe accepted the US dollar and the South African rand as the main legal tender, which helped the country to stabilize the economy after world-record inflation threw it into a tailspin.

5. Hero MotoCorp unveiled a 150cc hybrid diesel concept motorcycle RNT on 29 January 2014. Along with RNT, company has plans to launch four other models by 2014-15.

6. New technocratic government of Tunisia that is headed by the Prime Minister Mehdi Jomaa was sworn in on 29 January 2014. This ceremony has replaced the Islamist-led administration under an accord to end the political turmoil of the country. This government will also prepare for fresh elections.

7. Sumit Malik, the 400 meter gold medal winner in the men’s 400 meter race in Lusofonia Games 2014 has been stripped off from his medal on 28 January 2014. He was stripped for violating anti-doping rules and illegally participating in the Lusofonia Games in lieu of a provisional suspension imposed on him by National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA). He was a gold medalist of the Lusofonia Games 400-meter event.
