Today's GK



  • A solar-powered aircraft completed the final leg of a history-making cross-country flight on Saturday night, gliding to a smooth stop at New York’s JFK airport. It has 11,000 solar cells. 
  • Indian women take 4x400m relay gold:Tintu Luka, Nirmala Sheoran, Anu Mariam Jose and M.R. Poovamma. India gets one gold, three silver and four bronze medals at the Asian athletics championships and finished sixth at the Shiv Chhatrapati Stadium, Balewadi, it was a far cry from the second position that it had attained when the championships was held in the country for the first time in 1989. It was in 2007 at Amman that the country had won its last gold and since then had been pushed to the second spot in 2009 (Guangzhou) and 2011(Kobe). 
  • Britain’s 77-year wait for home-grown men’s singles Wimbledon champion ended on a mellow Sunday afternoon when Andy Murray overcame Novak Djokovic in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5, 6-4. 
  • Taiwan's Su-Wei Hsieh and Peng Shuai of China won the Wimbledon women’s doubles title on Saturday with a 7-6(1), 6-1 win over Australian duo, Ashleigh Barty and Casey Dellacqua. 
  • Li Ling of China rewrote the championship record, clearing 4.54 metres while winning the gold in the women's pole vault event on 20th Asian athletics. 
  • Former Delhi police Chief, KK Paul on 8 July 2013 took over as the new Governor of Meghalaya. 
  • Shriniwas Dadasaheb Patil appointed new Governor of Sikkim 
  • World’s 1st IVF baby is born in US in June 2013 thus becoming the world's first test tube baby to be born using a new low cost "next-generation sequencing" IVF technique.
